Mother to Prince Phillip, Princess Alice of Battenburg lived a fascinating life. She was a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria and part of the Greek monarchy, who were exiled in 1917. She was then diagnosed with schizophrenia and was treated by Sigmund Freud, who’s torture-like treatments revolved around eradicating her libido by damaging her ovaries. Upon her recovery, Princess Alice devoted her life to charity. She sheltered Jewish refugees during WWII and later became a nun.
